Library-users have emptied a town's library of books in protest against plans to close it down
Sometimes it can be all doom and gloom and you think that librarianship as a profesison really is an echo chamber, but things like this really bring a tear to my eye and make me realise that I've picked a career and profession that, despite all the obstacles, is worthwhile and that can potentially change people's lives.
ETA There are campaign photos now and they're going on the BBC News properly. Well done, Stony Stratford.

I think it's brilliant that you're going into (are already in?) librarianship. Some of the most awesome people I know irl are librarians.

Yup, I'm already in there :) I'm studying for an MA in librarianship but have been working in libraries for about six years now, first as a part-time student job while I was doing my degree and then as a full-time library assistant.

Huzzah for these library patrons!
The way that California's budget looks...eeep. *is worried*

I'm worried as well - I am in an academic library at the moment but every so often I think about what I'd like to do once I qualify. The thought that there might not be any jobs in the public sector left by that time is very worrying indeed.
