I have zero problem with people stage dooring when they've seen the show whether that be once or 100 times. Noone has a right to see anyone at the stage door but if you've spent your money on a ticket and want to pop around and say hi to the actors afterwards then as long as you're respectful and undemanding thats fine and dandy. I don't even have a problem with people stage dooring once if they haven't seen the play that day but couldn't catch the actors the last time around. But repeatedly stage dooring when you haven't seen the show is generally considered very odd behaviour although I am apparently now being accused by her of discouraging people from visiting the National as I've suggested that stage dooring when you haven't seen the play isn't tremendously good etiquette.
Yes I was there at that Thursday stage door too (having seen the play obviously)- it was a very quiet and polite crowd.
Jonny I'm aware from talking to some of his fans who have been following him for years isn't too keen on stage dooring which is fine. (Although the subject of this post is currently encouraging people to wait in the cold for him although his appearances are rare indeed). As you said noone owes anyone anything. But its a little disconcerting that gentle suggestions about stage door etiquette are being taken as people "speaking on behalf of the National and the actors".
The photo issue is a slight digression. I'm not completely on board with the "don't post" rule not because I would want to post any pics of him because I wouldn't but because a fair number of younger fans who have had photos with him and then posted them on their twitters/tumblrs have been attacked by some of his fans for something that he only said on the opening weekend. but as I said - I digress. But I've not seen anyone behave as she did taking millions of flash pics when he'd just said he was exhausted and didn't want photos.
